Why Felt?

Warm, quiet, breathable, and it holds its shape without a frame. This page describes what felt is like to live with — nothing more, nothing we cannot stand behind.

Felt is warm, quiet, breathable and naturally dirt-resistant. It holds its shape without a frame, muffles sound, and does not hold smells the way synthetic fabrics do.

Wool felt also regulates temperature: warm in winter, never stuffy in summer. It is a natural material for animals that spend most of the day asleep in it — cats and dogs alike.

Warmth without overheating. Wool fibres trap air, which is what keeps a pet warm — and the same fibres let moisture escape, so the inside of a cave or bed stays dry and comfortable rather than clammy.

Quiet. Felt absorbs sound instead of rustling or crackling. A nervous cat or dog notices the difference immediately: the bed does not announce every movement.

Holds its shape. Dense hand-felted wool stands up on its own. There is no wire frame to bend, no foam to go flat — the dome is the felt itself, and it springs back after every nap.

Easy to live with. Felt resists dirt and does not hold odours the way synthetic fabrics do. Most messes wipe off with a damp cloth, and a deeper clean is a simple hand-wash (see our care guide).

Made from wool, nothing else. Our caves, beds, mats and toys are 100% merino wool — no plastic fillers, no synthetic lining, no chemical smell. Just wool, water and soap.
